"Bringing men's health to the attention of the people around me by letting my moustache grow for a month and trying to raise money with it..", was the quote I used when I first participated in Movember back in 2011. Surprisingly, people reacted really positive to the - back then - quite unknown movement I joined, that I was introduced to by my English classmates.
One of the first people to support my Movember initiative was my good friend Donald. Unfortunately fate decided to strike Donald with the diagnosis of testicular cancer only a few years after, from which he luckily recovered following the necessary surgery and intensive treatment the period after.
This put the topic and annual awareness campaign Movember in a whole different light for us and our group of friends, which we've been holding together since the early bachelor degree days. Never did we expect to be paying it forward back in 2011 already, but in the end it feels even better now knowing we already did back then.
Donald has since his recovery in 2015 always participated in Movember to keep paying it forward for those Bros who shared (or will share) his fate and to support research that'll hopefully dispatch us men from the risk of getting this disease.
This Movember marks the 10-year cancer free anniversary of my still good friend Donald so we decided to partake as a team to celebrate the second lustrum.
