My motivation

Gezondheid Van De Man

Mentale gezondheid en preventie van zelfmoord

In 2020, I've fought an intense battle with testicular cancer. With a lot of great help from doctors, nurses and the love and support from my loved ones, friends and family I was lucky enough to beat it.

If my diagnose would have been a few weeks later, though, I might not have been able to tell this story... On the other hand, if my diagnose would have been a couple of months earlier - when the first symptoms started to appear - the impact of the treatment would have been a lot smaller.

Two years later I was also diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which was a whole other struggle. Even so, the same rule applies for mental health: the sooner the diagnosis, the better!

With my Movember campaign, I hope to raise awareness on the subject and motivate men to take their health into their own hands, while having some fun in the process!

Every case that is diagnosed sooner, rather than later, can prevent so much suffering that it's easily worth the trouble. So if you can help me spread the word, that'd be great!

On the final day of Movember I don’t want to focus on all the nasty stuff that happened after my cancer diagnosis was made. Rather, I thought it would be better if I talked about my medical history in the months before. Because it was in that period that awareness could have really made a difference for me.
